Ronald McDonald House Charities Charlottesville
Board of Directors

Emily Boxley, Nurse Practitioner/Mom
I serve on the RMHC Charlottesville Board because I believe in the mission of RMHC and know first hand how valuable the house is to the families of the pediatric patients at UVa Health System. I was able to stay at the house 13 years ago while my middle son was in the NICU. It was such a blessing and my hope is to serve the house to pass this blessing on to others.

Dan Buckman, Managing Partner, Buckman & Company
Having family who worked in the medical field, and also having close friends and family experience serious health challenges of their own, I understand how daunting the new reality can feel when your child is experiencing serious illness. I feel compelled to help others and support my community to ease this burden even by a small amount. I am proud of the work RMHC does, and I am thrilled to be part of the team.
-

Mike Callahan, Line and Grade Planning and Civil Engineering
Mike brings to the Board a perspective of someone who once lived at a Ronald McDonald House. In 2019 Mike, his wife Emily, and son Jack lived at the Ronald McDonald House in Philadelphia while Jack underwent cancer treatment. Mike gained a deep appreciation for the House and its mission of caring for the whole family. During the day Mike leads a small business that provides planning, design, and market analysis services to local governments.

Cheryl Duncan, General Sales Manager, CBS19
The Ronald McDonald house holds a special place in my heart. We experienced a serious health issue with our son when he was 7 and I learned how important it is to have a safe, close place to stay while your child is in the hospital. I’ve worked with the House in Charlottesville for 15 years in several capacities and I am honored to be a board member.

-

Barbara Fitch, Academic Operations Coordinator at UVA Darden School of Business
Being part of the Ronald McDonald House Board allows me to serve families during some of their most difficult moments. As someone deeply committed to community care and support, I believe in creating spaces of comfort, healing, and hope. This role gives me the opportunity to help ensure families stay close to their children during medical treatments, surrounded by compassion and love—something every child and parent deserves.
-

Thomas Harkins, Retired, UVA Health System
Being a member of the Board of RMHC of Charlottesville is a privlege.
To help support the families of children at UVA Children’s Hospital and the staff of the House that take care of them is one of the most rewarding opportunities that I have ever had. I can think of no more important mission than caring for these families. We on the Board are the real beneficiaries of the House as we get more in return in than we can ever give our families.
-

Cali Hendricks
Coming from a family deeply connected to the Ronald McDonald House Charities, Cali has a long-standing commitment supporting the organization’s mission. Her father-in-law, Richard Hendricks, helped open the first Ronald McDonald House in Charlottesville, marking the beginning of a legacy that Cali and her family continue to support. With a background in education and a passion for helping others, Cali has served on the board for 4 years, contributing to the growth and impact of Ronald McDonald House Charities.
-

Alec Lorenzoni, Ragged Mountain Running
A lifelong resident of Charlottesville, Alec first got involved with the House when he and his wife started JackFest back in 2019. The event started as a fundraiser for close personal friends who had to uproot and move to Philadelphia for a very long-term stay at the Ronald McDonald House, but has now evolved into a big community engagement event and fundraiser for Ronald McDonald House Charlottesville. I am thrilled to join this energetic Board to work hand-in-hand with fellow Board members and RMH leadership and staff to foster such a worthy mission. During the day, I run the family business with my sister and parents.
-

Kyle McNew, Attorney, MichieHamlett PLLC
My firm has a long history with RMHC Charlottesville. Given the role that the House plays in our community, and as a father myself, continuing our firm’s connection with the House was an opportunity I’d been looking forward to. The mission is vital, and the efficiency of service provided is uncommonly impressive. It feels good to serve an organization that serves so many.
-

Joseph Miller, Senior Loan Officer, Intercoastal Mortgage
RMHC has been a passion project of my family for the last 40 years. As a child I had multiple visits to Children’s Hospital in DC and even over 45 years later can remember my parents sleeping on the floor. A RMH would have meant the world to them at that time. The stability and “home” that RMH provides families during a time of amazing instability is so crucial to their own well being. It’s a gift to be able to think we are taking anything off their immense plate.
-

Lois Stanley, UVA SVP Operations
I am very much looking forward to serving on the RMHC Board to support its mission in Charlottesville where I am a new resident, having joined UVA in 2025. The Ronald McDonald House was there for my brother’s family many years ago when one of his daughters was treated for a brain tumor. I feel privileged to have this opportunity to give back.
-
Jonathan Swanson MD, MSc, MBA
The Ronald McDonald House is important to me because it provides a vital source of comfort and stability for families facing medical crises. As a neonatologist, I see firsthand the challenges families endure when their infant is hospitalized. Serving on the Board of Directors allows me to support this mission, ensuring that families have a home away from home; keeping families close to their babies and close to the care their child needs, during some of the most difficult times in their lives.

-

Scott C. Waskey, Vice President, Shore United Bank
I handled the financing of the renovations on the House several years ago, and as a result became very familiar with the mission and operations of the House. At the invitation of the Executive Director, I gladly became a member of the Board!
-

Skip White, Piedmont Liability Trust
As a longtime employee of UVA Health, I have always appreciated the mission of RMHC. It is a unique and incredibly valuable asset to the Health System, the patients and families it serves, and the overall Central Virginia community. Being a member of the RMHC Board is a true privilege, and I look forward to helping the organization grow in order to serve more families.
