Metal Recycling – It’s a Win-Win-Win
The House has recently partnered with Cycle System (“CS”) to provide a wonderful new recycling opportunity to our supporters. As you may know, we have been active in collecting
and recycling aluminum pop tabs for over two decades. During that time we have collected countless pop tabs from local schools, businesses, and residents in Central Virginia. We still consider it to be a signature program of ours. CS has offered to help us streamline our collection process by providing special storage containers for us and transporting the tabs from RMHC-C to their Charlottesville facility on a routine basis. With the tremendous support of Cycle Systems we are now expanding this partnership to include two new features: general metal recycling and alternate site participation
General Metal Recycling:
If it’s metal it can be recycled to benefit the House! CS will accept just about everything made of metal – aluminum cans, appliances, metal chairs and swing sets, scrap metal of all types, grills, and even cars. Their website, www.cyclesystems.com, contains a list of the metal materials they accept. If you have a question about what is acceptable and what is not, simply call their toll free number at 1.800.542.7000. What a great way to clean out the garage, the “back 40”, and the basement! Just remember that we cannot accept these items at the House, they must be taken to a Cycle Systems Recycling Center. But, CS has made that easy…….
Alternate Site Participation:
Cycle Systems has very generously set up an account for us at all nine of their sites around the state: Charlottesville, Roanoke, Lynchburg, Harrisonburg, Waynesboro/Staunton, Martinsville, Pulaski, South Boston, and Covington. The address for each of these locations is provided on the CS website. This means you can take your pop tabs and scrap metal to a location close to you. You no longer need to worry about how to get your pop tabs to Charlottesville if you live in Waynesboro. Isn’t this wonderfully convenient? There is just one very important thing you need to remember when you take your items to CS. You must be very specific in telling them that you want your delivery to benefit the Ronald McDonald House of Charlottesville. Otherwise, your contribution may not be credited to us.
To us, this looks like a Win-Win-Win program. You get a safe and free way to get rid of your unwanted metal, you protect the environment by keeping those items from filling up our landfills, AND you help out the Ronald McDonald House of Charlottesville. So ask yourself: “Got metal?”
